Mystery of biology 9: osteoblasts, bone forming cells.

Study of bones is called OSTEOLOGY.  Since the bones are formed by OSTEOBLAST( a cell), study of bones is referred to as osteology. Bone structure, shape, function and so many other things explained in osteology.
Basically osteoblast secretes the proteins to extra cellular matrix(ECM). That protein contains, about 90% of collagen & 10% of proteoglycan.

ANIMATED VIDEO EXPLAINING BONE FORMATION

As we know, CALCIUM CARBONATE is the key component of bone. since 'Ca' is positively charged, all proeoglycan are negatively charged. this also helps in binding of phosphate molecules.

PATTERN OF ARRANGEMENT OF COLLAGEN

As shown in above picture, the collagen fibers are arranged. As we fill up the concrete into these rods, in the sane way the filling up of proteoglycans takes place.

CALCIUM BINDING TO COLLAGEN

After series of such reactionS, a BONE formed. Many blood capillaries are intermixed in bone.

"BECAUSE OF ALL THESE THINGS OSTEOLOGY IS ONE OF THE THRILLING ASPECT IN BIOLOGY"

These many biochemical reactions take place very rapidly. before puberty, bones can grow up to 0.1mm per day....

  1. Medicarpin isolated from the herb of Hedysarum polybotrys Hand. -Mazz. It stimulates osteoblast differentiation via ERβ, and promotes achievement of peak bone mass. Medicarpin
